Short and punchy, the Series Land Rover 88’s compact chassis made it perfect for navigating rough terrain when hauling a large number of people wasn’t a concern. With ample cargo room in the rear, the 88 carried a few passengers wherever the trail would take them. This late Series-IIA Land Rover 88 was imported from Granada, Spain, where it was partially restored by a Land Rover enthusiast.

Driveline. This truck retains its original 2.25L four-cylinder inline diesel. Mated to a four-speed transmission and high-low transfer case, it helps move the truck damn-near anywhere on the planet – though never much faster than 45mph. Our time behind the wheel reveals a transmission easily engaged and drama free, and an eager motor with bountiful torque on tap.

Exterior. Freshly painted in mid-2017, the body presents well in a limestone with matching roof and wheels. Panels are straight and the paint is clear and consistent. Overspray is evident in detail areas. Front and rear windows slide along their tracks with ease, while doors shut solid and line up well.

Interior. Clean and original, with only new upholstering in the front giving away any sense for having been refreshed. Currently configured to seat 7 with opposed-facing jump seats in the rear. Black vinyl upholstery is clean and untorn, while the jump-seats fold up out of the way to increase cargo space when needed.
