As iconic as it gets. The Land Rover 109 was built across four decades and is the quintessential tool for rugged, go-anywhere exploring. This 1978 Land Rover 109 Santana was imported from Torrelodones, Spain, a community located Northwest of Madrid. Original and complete, this Series-III is an excellent option for the enthusiast looking for either a risk-free driver or the perfect platform for a driving restoration.

Driveline. This truck retails its original 2.25L four-cylinder inline diesel. Mated to a four-speed transmission and high-low transfer case, it helps move the truck damn-near anywhere on the planet – though never much faster than 45mph. The motor smokes a little upon startup if sitting for an extended period of time before dissipating into a comfortable idle.

Exterior. The limestone paint is mostly original, showing the scars and patina from a life on backroads and trails. The bodywork is generally straight, but the highlight here is the chassis itself. The floors, bulkhead, frame rails, and rear cross members are all bone-dry with no signs on rot. She’s wearing more aggressive tires in the rear to help give an edge on trails. The vehicle is equipped with the Safari roof, permitting it’s in-cabin fresh air vents to open on hot days.

Interior. The interior is currently figured to seat six, though extra seating can be added in the rear to extend that number to ten. The seats and upholstery are largely original, as are the dash and gauge clusters.
